About the event

Join the Connecticut River Museum aboard RiverQuest and meet the first person to swim all 410 miles of the Connecticut River! In this Lecture Underway, Kari Kastango will share her story of resilience, discovery and adventure. Passengers will also learn about the challenges and logistics of this monumental undertaking. Kari will imbue passengers with a deepened appreciation of the Connecticut River and the ongoing work from source to sea to preserve and protect it.

Kari Kastango is a member of the Board of Trustees at Connecticut River Conservancy. She began her career as a research exercise physiologist (UMASS, Amherst ‘89, ‘92) which led her to pursue a PhD in Biostatistics (PITT ‘06). With 20 years in the pharmaceutical industry, Kari currently works as a director of statistical operations at a clinical research organization. She balances professional and personal commitments through physical pursuits that are meditative in nature. She has completed two ultra-distance triathlons and is the first person to swim the entire length of the Connecticut River. Kari lives in South Hadley, MA with her wife, Alison Garvey, and their two cats.
