Migratory Fish Tour at the Silvio O. Conte Research Lab

Time & Location

May 15, 2025, 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM

About the event

Join us to celebrate migratory fish season with a tour of the Silvio O. Conte Research Laboratory, part of the U.S. Geological Survey's Eastern Ecological Science Center, along the shores of the Connecticut River in Turners Falls. We’ll get an inside look at the wet and dry research labs and see the huge structure where scientists and engineers study and develop novel fish passage technologies. We’ll learn about – and have a chance to observe – the various fish migrating in the waters of the Connecticut River watershed and the role of Conte Lab, CRC, and the Connecticut River Migratory Fish Restoration Cooperative in this important restoration work. Bring your questions!

The tour will be led by Brett Towler, Science Team Manager, Conte Lab; and Kate Buckman, CRC’s Aquatic Ecologist.

The main research building (with dry and wet labs) is wheel chair accessible.  Unfortunately, the larger fish passage complex (flume building) is not, and visitors will need to walk over grating and up 1-2 flights of stairs.  For anyone with limited mobility, please note on your registration and we can arrange for another access point on street level.

RAIN DATE: 5/29. The tour will be postponed to this date only in the event of heavy rain. Registrants will be notified of any change by 5pm on 5/14.
